Specification

The following is typical a specification for a Garden Office FatPod:

Walls

  • Curved plywood structural box with encapsulated fibreglass insulation, plasterboard finish internally on high performance foil insulation and vapour barrier to a standard that exceeds current building regulations. Fully plastered and decorated after installation, so no visible internal jointing strips.

External Cladding

  • Western Red Cedar shingles, blue label grade, on breathable membrane on battens. Cedar shingles are available treated or untreated.

Glazing

  • 2.0m diameter hinged double skin polycarbonate roof dome to maximise natural light and ventilation.
  • Double glazed stainless steel porthole window.

Desk

  • An ergonomic semicircular desk, 700mm deep and a length of 2.4m, in a range of finishes and colours to the customers choice, with 2 cable grommets in the top and cable management below. Bespoke drawer units, shelves and seating are also available by special request.

Floor

  • Suspended timber floor with 75mm closed cell insulation. Floor covering is generally not included, as this enables customers to choose to suit their own requirements. However, we can provide floor finishes if required. We recommend that carpet is fitted with underlay to improve comfort and acoustics.

Electrics

  • 8nr Dimmable spotlights
  • Concealed background mood lighting, separately switched from spotlights.
  • 2 Double Power outlets (these can be extended below the desk using the cable management to provide more outlets.)
  • Electric panel heater
  • Consumer Unit with MCBs for power and lighting. (Connection to the house or mains supply is not included – we recommend that an RCD is fitted to the supply end of the incoming SWA cable)
  • Data outlet for connection of phone lines

Foundations

  • Concrete foundation blocks are included – the customer will just need to prepare the ground prior to installation.

Door

  • Top hinged gull-wing door, with gas strut assistance Weatherproof seals, Push handles and deadlock.

Please note that we are continually developing and improving the specifications, and these may therefore be subject to change.

Planning
In the vast majority of cases, Planning Permission will not be required, although we recommend that you obtain confirmation of this from your Local Authority. Our design is well within the permitted height constraints, and as long as it is suitably positioned away from your property and boundaries, you are not restricting views to any public highway or neighbouring property you should not require Planning Permission. There are some exceptions: conservation areas, areas of outstanding natural beauty, and construction on a site where there is a 'listed' building. Overall, it is rare that a planning application has to be filled out, but if one is required, we can put you in touch with a specialist that could deal with the application for you
Delivery
The Pod can be fully assembled in our workshop and delivered to site by crane. Alternatively if delivery by crane is not feasible, the pods can be built on site from the main components, all of which are sized to be carried through a house.
Installation
The foundations blocks are included in the price of the pod. However, you will need to prepare the ground below the pod, and details of what is required for this are available on request. Pods are made to order, and delivery is generally four to six weeks from order. Prefabricated pods are ready to be used within hours of delivery. Pods that are built on site require a minimum of two visits, with about 2 weeks between visits to allow the plaster to thoroughly dry.
